Golf Courses in Minnesota

In the Upper Midwest region of the US and on the Canadian border lies Minnesota. Home to big golfing names like Tom Lehman, Patty Berg and Lee Janzen, this state has a good golfing pedigree. They call the golfing terrain of Minnesota the land of 10,000 water hazards (one of the state nicknames is the land of 10,000 lakes) and it is the state with the most golfers per capita in the US. Given this stat, The North Star State must be doing something right when it comes to golf, so what is it?

The golf season in Minnesota is a short but great one and will be on full display this year at the 2016 Ryder Cup which will be played at Hazeltine National, Chaska, MN. The course has played host to two US Opens, two Women’s US Opens, and two PGA Championships. Just outside of Minneapolis, one of the famous twin cities of Minnesota, the suburb of Edina exists and plays home to one of the best courses in the country. Interlachen Country Club is another standout of the state, this Donald Ross course has also hosted major championships in the past and is a stunning course.

Spring Hill Golf Club is a stunning piece of land but is a more difficult course to play. It prides itself in keeping the traditions of the sport going and is one of the most picturesque courses in the state, especially in the autumnal months. Built in reclaimed mining land, The Quarry at Giants Ridge is probably the best completely public course in Minnesota. This course is dramatic yet traditional and one of the best public courses in the country, it’s a must play!
