Cut

(i) The reduction in the size of the field during a multiple round stroke play tournament. The cut is usually set so that a fixed number of players, plus anyone tied for that place, or anyone within a certain number of strokes of the lead will participate in the subsequent round(s) (typically 70 and ties; The Masters is top 50 or those within ten strokes, whichever is greater). Tournaments may have more than one cut (PGA Tour events with more than 79 players remaining after the cut will cut to 70 for the final round; players cut in the second cut will receive FedEx Cup points and money for finishing in their respective position).
